Poll: 74 Percent of New Yorkers Support Citizen-funded Elections

A new poll conducted by the Siena Research Institute shows overwhelming support for public financing and lower contribution limits: a full 74 percent of those polled are in favor of public financing of state elections. Furthermore the support is steady across all regions, political ideologies and racial categories. About 70 percent of the respondents identifying as Republicans support the initiatives, as well as 74 percent from upstate and 73 percent from New York City.

Survey results from Siena highlight campaign finance reform as one of the three proposals in the governor’s address that garnered the most support.
