A New Playing Field for Democracy Reform

Across the country, voters and advocates are calling for pro-democracy reforms. In New York, Governor Cuomo has included a small-donor matching system proposal in his executive budget for the last seven years, but those proposals have repeatedly been blocked.  2019 could bring the opportunity to finally pass this reform, which could have a significant impact on the issues that New Yorkers care about. As Jessica Wisneski of Citizen Action for New York said: “Everything that state government does—on schools, housing, criminal justice, environmental regulation, you name it—can only get better if the power of big money is reduced, and if more people are participating in choosing our leaders. We want an inclusive democracy, and this is how we get one.”
