New York Catching Up to Rest of Country on Voting Rights

New York has one of the most antiquated voting systems in the country. On Monday, the legislature passed several bills to bring the state up to speed with the rest of the nation, including pre-registration for 16- and 17-year-olds, early voting, “no-excuse” absentee voting, and same-day registration (the latter two require constitutional amendment). Later in the session, the legislature will also consider a small donor public financing system providing a match of six dollars for every dollar of small donations.
