Waiting for public campaign financing in New York (Op-Ed)

Columnist Mark Chiusano argues in favor of small donor public financing for New York, noting the overwhelming disparity between small and large donors in the state. In the 2018 cycle, just 100 of the largest donors contributed more to candidates than all 137,000 small donors combined. Reflecting on the unsteady support in Albany for this transformative legislation, Chiusano writes, “given how far the current system is skewed in big money’s direction, you’d think progressive Democrats would want to give it a chance.”
