Curb the impact of big donors (Op-Ed)

New York state needs small donor public financing, writes president of the NAACP New York State Conference and NY LEAD member Dr. Hazel N. Dukes. This crucial campaign finance reform would bring transformational change to New York state. Small donor public financing “increases the influence of everyday people, frees officeholders to focus on constituents rather than on big donors, reduces perceptions of government corruption that feed public cynicism, and boosts civic engagement.” These benefits would come at a cost of less than one penny a day per New Yorker.
