The New York State budget for fiscal year 2020, passed on April 1, 2019, included a historic measure: the establishment of a public financing commission charged with designing a small donor public financing system for the state. Leaders in Albany named the members of the commission on July 3, 2019. If the commission accomplishes its task, it will represent one of the most impactful campaign finance reforms in the United States to counter the 2010 Citizens United decision.
