State Campaign Finance Commission is About to Get to Work; Here’s How It Can Help Albany Clean Up Its Act (Op-Ed)

Alex Camarda of Reinvent Albany calls on the Public Campaign Financing Commission to “to create a strong small-donor matching program, dramatically lower campaign contribution limits, and establish independent enforcement as in New York City’s successful program.”  Camarda notes that most contributions to New York politicians come from special interests and extremely wealthy individuals.  A public financing system that provides a multiple match on small contributions would go a long way towards redirecting fundraising focus away from the wealthy few and towards working New Yorkers.
