State Campaign Financing Commission Holds First Public Meeting

Public financing advocates are cautiously optimistic that the state’s Public Campaign Financing Commission will recommend policies that will help reform how New York candidates finance their campaigns. The Commission held its first meeting on August 21, during which the Commissioners discussed procedures for future hearings and other organizational matters. Outside the meeting, advocates, including state Senator Robert Jackson, called on the commission to create a $6-to-$1 small donor match public financing system.
