Commission considers lowering New York’s political contribution limits

A key issue under consideration by the Public Campaign Financing Commission is whether they can and should lower contribution limits for both participating and non-participating candidates. During Monday’s working meeting, Commissioners indicated support for reducing limits. At present, New York has some of the highest contribution limits in the nation, including the highest limits for statewide office. As Chisun Lee of the Brennan Center for Justice put it, “Compared to federal elections, we’re in a different order of magnitude.”
